FliegerFriday is an increasingly popular hashtag on social media, celebrating the growing community of pilot watch enthusiasts and collectors worldwide. This hashtag creates a space for sharing a passion for pilot watches online. In honor of #FliegerFriday, Robot presents a special edition of Czech pilot watches.
Czechoslovakia has a deep military aviation heritage, with a significant part of the Austro-Hungarian aviation industry built on Czech companies such as Aero, Avia, Beneš-Mráz, Letov, Praga, Tatra, and Zlín. Key engine manufacturers included ČKD, Walter, and Škoda. Pilot watches evoke a nostalgia for the “fuel-soaked air of the past” and pay tribute to this rich historical legacy.
Robot introduces a limited-edition timepiece as part of the FLIEGER FRIDAY project, marking the first of its kind created by a Czech watchmaking brand. A key requirement for any watch we design, especially one we want to wear ourselves, is readability. This edition ensures that with bold skeleton hands and a highly legible multi-layered dial, protected by sapphire glass with an anti-reflective coating. Thanks to the luminous coating, the time remains easy to read even in low-light conditions.
To ensure comfort, we chose a 40mm case size, which sits well on the wrist thanks to the tapered lugs. The watch’s very low weight, almost as if made of titanium, further enhances its wearability. True pilot watches should avoid reflecting light, so we opted for sandblasted steel, giving the case a beautiful matte finish that complements the crown and pin buckle. The watch is powered by a high-quality Swiss movement from La Joux-Perret, specifically the G101 caliber, offering a 68-hour power reserve.
Although the case back is solid, a small window reveals the rotor, engraved with robots signaling the word “ROBOT” in semaphore.
